Public transport and freight

For many people, goods transport vehicles are characterized by nuisances.

Delivery vehicles in town :

• 10% of total transport (vehicles/Km)
• 40% of air and noise pollution [COST 321,1998]

Circulation in urban areas is more and more difficult; however, city deliveries are essential :

Administrations and stores supply, waste collect, cash in transit, mail delivery, removal etc…

...Therefore is the necessity of changing the organization...

We already apply a lot of logistic to urban public transport, supporting their activity or that of their clients :

• support logistic: maintenance, sustainment, cleaning, transportation of spare parts.

• client oriented logistic: installed commercial brands, bill sticking, supply of the drinks and candies, waste collect.

Thought, those applications aren’t visible.Therefore, they weren’t listed or analyzed, and even less extrapolated. Examples and projects using “passenger” resources for freight transport are rare. Although, some of them ca be spotted.
